Description
Tires are undoubtedly one of the most important components of our scooters. They provide contact with the road and are therefore crucial not only for safety but also significantly for driving enjoyment. The goal was to develop a tire that allows you to corner and navigate roundabouts with ease, both in wet and dry conditions! Combined with the speed releases required for modern engine concepts, only one path was open: a complete new development!
Two things are decisive for the handling of a tire: The rubber compound and the tire construction. bgm tires are designed without any compromises here and produced in Germany. All the innovations of recent years in tire technology have been incorporated into our tires. The specially tuned material mixture with a high silica compound provides excellent grip in dry and wet conditions. The extremely stable carcass ensures perfect straight-line stability and excellent cornering precision during fast cornering. Usually, tires are simply pressed into shape from a single layer of rubber. bgm tires are much more complex to produce and consist of several layered layers to create the perfect tire that meets the highest requirements and boasts the highest speed release on the market.
Features:
- Approval up to 180 km/h (Sport) and up to 150 km/h (Classic) are ideal for high-performance engines and corresponding registrations
- Additional REINFORCED marking.
- Extremely solid carcass for perfect straight-line stability and excellent cornering precision during fast cornering.
- V-shape instead of U-shape. This allows the tire to steer more precisely into corners and offers more contact surface during lean angle.
- Specially tuned material mixture (Silica Compound) for excellent grip in dry and wet conditions.
- 100 % Made in Germany.
The bgm Classic profile is a tribute to the profile type that was chosen as the original equipment tire for many Vespas and Lambrettas. This perfectly combines a timeless classic profile with the tire technology of the 21st century.
If there is a red dot on the tire sidewall, please position it at the valve. The tire is easiest to balance here, thus compensating for the weight of the valve.
Important Tips for Tire Mounting with Split Rims (Classic Vespa & Lambretta)
ROLLING DIRECTION
Check the tire for a rolling direction indication (arrow) on the tire sidewall. If an arrow is present, it indicates the direction of rotation when the tire is mounted.
TIRE TYPE TT OR TL
Check whether the tire has the TT (tube type = tire with tube) or TL (tube less = tire without tube) marking. TT tires must not be used on tubeless rims. Conversely, TL tires can be used on split rims, but are significantly tighter and only settle into their final position with a lot of tire mounting paste and high air pressure.
VISUAL INSPECTION AND TALCING
Before inserting the tube into the tire, check that there are no foreign objects inside the tire. Then fill the inside of the tire with some talcum powder. Now swing the tire so that the powder distributes evenly.
TUBE MOUNTING
Now insert the tube into the tire and inflate it slightly until it has assumed a round shape. Pay attention to the rolling direction of the tire as well as the valve orientation (left/right)!
MOUNTING PASTE
Apply some tire mounting paste to the tire bead and rim. Press the rim half with the valve hole into the tire, threading the tire valve through the rim hole. Press the other rim half into the tire and screw both halves together with the nuts. Make sure that the tube is not pinched between the halves.
If necessary, pump a little more air into the tire.
INFLATING THE TIRE
Once the rim nuts and lock rings are mounted and properly tightened (M8 = 22Nm), begin inflating the tire. Start with low air pressure and check that the valve is properly seated in the rim hole. If necessary, move the valve slightly.
Now inflate the tire to about 3 Bar and check if the tire fits snugly to the rim edge. With TL tires, the air pressure can also be increased briefly (not above 5 Bar!). After successful inspection, reduce the air pressure to the level suitable for the vehicle. Clean the tire by washing it with water and a mild detergent to remove residues, e.g. from the tire mounting paste.
VISUAL INSPECTION
After mounting on the vehicle, check the tire for roundness. If the tire does not run true, it has not settled properly. Repeated inflation or a short ride of about 10m with low air pressure can help. Otherwise, the wheel must be disassembled again and checked for mounting errors.
FIRST RIDE
Do not use full power during the first few kilometers. The tire only develops its full grip after a few kilometers. Pay particular attention to this in wet conditions.
