Description
The tire is undoubtedly one of the most important components of our scooters. It provides the contact to the road and is therefore responsible not only for safety but also significantly for driving pleasure. The goal was to develop a tire with which you can corner and navigate roundabouts equally well in wet and dry conditions! Coupled with the speed release required for today’s engine concepts, only one path remained open: a complete new development!
Two things are crucial for the handling of a tire: the rubber compound and the construction of the tire. bgm tires are designed here without any compromise and produced in Germany. All innovations of recent years in tire technology have been incorporated into our tires. The specially tuned material mixture with a high silica compound ensures excellent grip in dry and wet conditions. The extremely stable carcass ensures perfect straight-line stability and excellent directional stability when cornering at speed. Usually, tires are simply pressed into shape from a layer of rubber. bgm tires are much more complex to produce and consist of several layered layers to create the perfect tire that meets the highest requirements and boasts the highest speed release on the market.
Features:
- Release up to 180 km/h (Sport) and up to 150 km/h (Classic) are ideal for high-performance engines and corresponding registration.
- Additional REINFORCED marking.
- Extremely solid carcass for perfect straight-line stability and excellent directional stability when cornering at speed.
- V-shape instead of U-shape. This allows the tire to steer much better into corners and offers more contact area when leaning.
- Specially tuned material mixture (Silica Compound) for excellent grip in dry and wet conditions.
- 100% Made in Germany.
The bgm Classic profile is a tribute to the profile type that was chosen as the original equipment tire for many Vespas and Lambrettas. This perfectly combines a timeless classic profile with the tire technology of the 21st century.
If there is a red dot on the tire sidewall, please position it at the valve. The tire is easiest to balance here, thus balancing the weight of the valve.
Important tips for tire mounting with split rims (Classic Vespa & Lambretta)
RUNNING DIRECTION
Check the tire for a direction of rotation indication (arrow) on the tire sidewall. If an arrow is present, it indicates the direction of rotation when the tire is mounted.
TIRE TYPE TT OR TL
Check whether the tire has the TT marking (tube type = tire with tube) or TL (tube less = tire without tube). TT tires must not be used on tubeless rims. Conversely, TL tires can be used on split rims, but are noticeably tighter and only seat with a lot of tire mounting paste and high air pressure in their final position.
VISUAL INSPECTION AND TALCING
Before inserting the tube into the tire, check that no foreign objects are inside the tire. Then fill the inside of the tire with some talcum powder. Now swing the tire so that the powder spreads evenly.
TUBE MOUNTING
Now insert the tube into the tire and inflate it slightly until it has a round shape. Pay attention to the direction of rotation of the tire as well as the valve direction (left/right)!
MOUNTING PASTE
Apply some tire mounting paste to the tire bead and rim. Press the rim half with the valve hole into the tire and thread the tire valve into the rim hole. The other rim half is inserted into the tire, and both halves are screwed together with the nuts. Make sure that the tube is not clamped between the halves. If necessary, pump a little more air.
INFLATING THE TIRE
Once the rim nuts and lock washers are mounted and properly tightened (M8 = 22Nm), start inflating the air. Start with low air pressure and check whether the valve is properly seated in the rim hole. If necessary, move the valve slightly.
Now inflate the tire to approx. 3 bar and see if the tire fits evenly against the rim edge. In the case of TL tires, the air pressure can also be increased briefly (not above 5 bar!). After successful inspection, reduce the air pressure again to the level appropriate for the vehicle. Wash the tire with water and a mild cleaning agent to remove residue, e.g. from the tire mounting paste, etc.
VISUAL INSPECTION
After mounting on the vehicle, check the tire for roundness. If the tire does not run true, it has not yet settled properly. Repeatedly inflating or a short drive of approx. 10m with low air pressure can help. Otherwise, the wheel must be disassembled again and checked for mounting errors.
FIRST DRIVE
Do not unleash full performance during the first kilometers. The tire only develops its full grip after a few kilometers. Pay particular attention to this in wet conditions.
