Undoubtedly, tires are one of the most important components of our scooters. They provide contact with the road and are therefore crucial not only for safety but also significantly for driving pleasure. The goal was to develop a tire that allows you to corner and navigate roundabouts with the same ease in wet and dry conditions! Coupled with the speed release required for today's engine concepts, only one path remained open: a complete new development!
Two things are crucial for the handling of a tire: the rubber compound and the tire construction. bgm tires are designed without any compromise here and produced in Germany. All the latest innovations in tire technology have been incorporated into our tires. The specially tuned material compound with a high silica content ensures excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions. The extremely stable carcass ensures perfect straight-line stability and excellent directional stability when cornering at speed. Usually, tires are simply pressed into shape from a single layer of rubber. bgm tires are much more complex to produce and consist of several layered layers to create the perfect tire that meets the highest demands and boasts the highest speed release on the market.
Features:
- Approval up to 180 km/h (Sport) and up to 150 km/h (Classic) are ideal for high-performance engines and corresponding registrations
- Additional REINFORCED marking.
- Extremely strong carcass for perfect straight-line stability and excellent directional stability when cornering at speed.
- V-shape instead of U-shape. This allows the tire to steer more easily into corners and offers more contact area when leaning.
- Specially tuned material compound (Silica Compound) for excellent grip in dry and wet conditions.
- 100% Made in Germany.
The bgm Classic profile is a tribute to the profile type chosen as the original equipment tire for many Vespas and Lambrettas. It perfectly combines a timeless classic profile with the tire technology of the 21st century.
If there is a red dot on the side of the tire, please position it at the valve. The tire is easiest to balance here, thus equalizing the weight of the valve.
Important Tips for Tire Mounting with Split Rims (Classic Vespa & Lambretta)
ROTATIONAL DIRECTION
Check the tire for a rotational direction indication (arrow) on the tire sidewall. If an arrow is present, it indicates the direction of rotation when the tire is mounted.
TIRE TYPE TT OR TL
Check whether the tire has the marking TT (tube type = tire with tube) or TL (tube less = tire without tube). TT tires must not be used on tubeless rims. Conversely, TL tires can be used on split rims, but they are significantly tighter and only seat with a lot of tire mounting paste and high air pressure.
VISUAL INSPECTION AND TALCUM POWDERING
Before inserting the inner tube into the tire, check that there are no foreign objects inside the tire. Then fill the inside of the tire with some talcum powder. Now swing the tire so that the powder is evenly distributed.
INNER TUBE MOUNTING
Now insert the inner tube into the tire and inflate it slightly until it has a round shape. Pay attention to the direction of rotation of the tire as well as the valve alignment (left/right)!
MOUNTING PASTE
Apply some tire mounting paste to the tire bead and rim. Press one rim half with the valve hole into the tire, threading the tire valve into the rim hole. Place the other rim half into the tire and screw both halves together with the nuts. Ensure that the inner tube is not pinched between the halves. Possibly pump a little more air in.
INFLATE THE TIRE
If the rim nuts and lock rings are mounted and tightened correctly (M8 = 22Nm), begin to inflate the air. Start with low air pressure and check whether the valve is seating correctly in the rim hole. If necessary, move the valve slightly.
Now inflate the tire to approximately 3 bar and see whether the tire is fitting snugly against the rim edge. With TL tires, the air pressure can also be increased briefly (not exceeding 5 bar!). After successful inspection, reduce the air pressure to the level suitable for the vehicle. Clean the tire by washing it with water and a mild detergent to remove residues such as tire mounting paste, etc.
VISUAL INSPECTION
After mounting on the vehicle, check the tire for roundness. If the tire does not run true, it has usually not seated correctly yet. Repeated inflation or a short ride of approximately 10m with low air pressure will help. Otherwise, the wheel must be disassembled again and checked for mounting errors.
FIRST RIDE
Do not unleash the full power in the first few kilometers. The tire develops its full grip only after a few kilometers. Pay particular attention to this in wet conditions.
