Converting to a more modern alternator/ignition type is an effective way to travel more permanently and safely. For example, the contactless CDI ignitions are almost indestructible and reliable, and the light output is also many times higher with a modern, controller-based, on-board electrical system, as not only is the voltage increased from 6 volts to 12 volts, but the ignition base plate can also produce more power in general.

To do this, it is necessary to adapt the cable harness, as in modern electrical systems, the alternators have connected all the light coils in series for maximum power yield and only one current-carrying cable is available as an output for the on-board voltage. This is then fed to the voltage regulator, which limits the on-board voltage to a constant 12-13 volts. This effectively prevents the dreaded domino effect of the old electrical system, in which all bulbs burn out one after the other after the failure of a single one. It is only after the controller that the power is then directed to the individual consumers. Thanks to this technology, a very powerful alternator, such as our BGM ignition base plate, can also be used, which guarantees high light output and ignition performance even at low speeds.

To use such an alternator in an old chassis, you therefore need a suitable cable harness. Our conversion cable harness is just the right thing for this and can also be used very universally. It is based on electrical systems reduced to the bare minimum that fuels the horn/snore, headlight/low beam and the rear/brake light. It is optionally possible to install a flasher relay; the cable harness is already prepared for this purpose.
In conjunction with our BGM 12 volt voltage regulator, this results in a very modern on-board electrical system that, in addition to brilliant and powerful light output, also has gimmicks such as a DC output for the charging function of a mobile phone or, for example, a navigation device.

When using our conversion cable harness, a battery is no longer required. Any existing 6V snare can continue to be used, it can easily handle the occasional 12V. Further technical information is available in our circuit diagram.

NOTE: This type of harness already includes a pre-wired light switch. The cable branch for the handlebar (for wiring light switches with screw terminals) is therefore unnecessary and does not have to be installed.
