    Production of the MP6 motor scooter starts under the name Vespa 98 (Italian for wasp). The first Vespa is thus born.
  • 1948
    Piaggio introduces the Ape (Italian for "bee") three-wheeled van.
  • 1967
    The moped model Ciao is introduced. This new generation of 2-stroke mopeds is particularly popular with young people. The Ciao is produced almost unchanged up to and including 2006.

    Piaggio takes over the Gilera brand.

    The first electric Ape is produced by Piaggio.
