Description
The history of the Italian company RMS dates back to 1945, and it has consistently produced first-class spare parts and accessories for scooters.
The variator drive of our scooter is the heart of the engine. It is quite robust and functions very reliably, however, the maintenance intervals should be observed. The most important parts here are the drive belt and the variator, in which the centrifugal weights (also called variator rollers) work.
The drive belt is often incorrectly assessed based on its appearance. However, the dimension is crucial. Each manufacturer specifies wear limits for their engines, which should be strictly adhered to. If a belt becomes too narrow, it can and will tear. If you're lucky, only the belt will be damaged. However, a torn drive belt can quickly cause damage to pulleys and the crankshaft / bearings, which can then become very expensive.
The variator itself can wear in the area of its guide bushing. A too low and drooping acceleration speed and thus reduced performance are the consequence. The centrifugal weights become slightly squared off over time, no longer work properly and can, in the event of advanced wear, cause damage to their running track in the variator.
