Malossi HTQ Secondary Gearbox 17/37 – longer gear ratio for noticeably more top speed

When you increase the power of your scooter through modification or the installation of a tuning cylinder, there is often still a lot of potential in the gear ratio. The original final drive ratio is usually chosen so that the stock engine can pull it without problems. However, as soon as more HP is available, the engine quickly spins "dead" at higher speeds – the RPM increases, but the top speed hardly does.

This is exactly where the Malossi HTQ Secondary Gearbox 17/37 comes in: The gears and intermediate shafts are processed to a first-class standard and help you bring the final RPMs to a tolerable level while simultaneously allowing the top speed to increase significantly. This setup is particularly popular, for example, for the Yamaha YP 250 Majesty, the MBK Skyliner 250, and the Aprilia Leonardo 250 – but many other 250cc models are also compatible.

And don't worry about the typical tall tales ("with a longer gear ratio it won't move anymore"): usually, minimally stiffer clutch springs are enough to compensate for this. On the contrary – if the gearbox is too short for the available horsepower, you are wasting valuable power because the engine could actually pull significantly more.
