In order for the gasoline-air mixture of our engine to ignite, a strong ignition spark, which is produced by the spark plug between its electrodes, is required at the right time.

A motorcycle engine with generally higher engine speeds places high demands on spark plugs. Often, the candle has to withstand a lot of short circuits, many coldstarts, high speeds ... A regular exchange is obligatory for a trouble-free operation!

The right spark plug selection

The right choice of spark plugs is indispensable for trouble-free operation! We recommend that you keep to the manufacturer's specification regarding the heat value! A false heat value can lead quite quickly to a massive engine damage! The heat value is always given as a number in the type code / name of the candle. Unfortunately, each manufacturer handles the numbers differently, so that as an example a 3 'spark plug from Bosch at NGK has a 9' heat value! However, for almost every vehicle in the manual, there is a manufacturer's specification with spark plugs that are usually used as an alternative.

In order to avoid interference with radio frequencies, the manufacturers use so-called suppressed spark plug connectors and, if necessary, suppressed spark plugs. Caution applies here when using suppressed plugs: double is not better here, then no radio-deadened candle should be used, since the total suppression resistance would be too high.

For a simple overview here is a small legend for NGK spark plugs:

• The letters combination before the heat value (number) gives information about the thread diameter, the hex wrench width and the design of the spark plug.
• The following figures indicate the heat value.
• The letter following the heat value indicates the length of the thread.

E = Long thread H = Short thread

• The letter after thread identification contains data on specific spark plug design features.
• The last position, again a number, encrypts special electrode distances.
  
  Some candles have a fairly short combination. There is no specification.
