For the gasoline-air mixture of the engine to ignite perfectly, a stable ignition spark is required at the right moment. Therefore, the correct choice of spark plug is essential for optimal combustion and performance development of the engine. Special attention should be paid to the heat value according to the manufacturer's specifications. Since each manufacturer specifies the heat value differently, a Bosch heat value 3, for example, can correspond to an NGK value of 9. For guidance, the manufacturer's information with alternative usable spark plugs and their exact designations or type codes can be found in every vehicle manual.

Caution should be exercised when using suppressed spark plug connectors; double suppression is not necessarily better, in this case, no suppressed spark plug should be used, as the overall suppression resistance would be too high.
