BGM PRO Fuel Tap Needle for Dell'Orto Carburetors
The float needle controls the fuel flow into the carburetor. If the float needle is defective, the carburetor will run rich and fuel will leak onto the ground and/or into the engine. A poorly starting and smoking engine is often the result.

When revising a carburetor, it therefore makes sense to change the float needle as well. Unfortunately, it is not included in most carburetor gasket sets, so it should always be purchased separately.

SPRING LOADED OR NOT?
A spring-loaded float needle is the modern successor to the unspring-loaded variant and can replace it 1:1. The spring serves to protect the rubber tip from excessive pressure and cushions strong shocks of the float, such as when driving over bumps or potholes, like a shock absorber. On many engines, which are supposedly not adjustable, simply installing a spring-loaded float needle can help significantly improve their tunability.

TRIANGULAR OR RECTANGULAR?
Dell'orto uses two different types of float needles: triangular and rectangular. The rectangular type comes in two sizes: 4.5mm and 5.2mm.

• Triangular: Dell'Orto SHB, PHVA, PHBN, PHBG, FHBB, UB, MA18, MB A 20-24

• Rectangular 4.5mm: Dell'Orto SI20, SI24/24E, SI26/26, SH, PHBH, PHBL, VHB, MA BS5/BS7, MB B20-24

• Rectangular 5.2mm: Dell'Orto SI24/24H, SI26/26H, VHSA,VHSB

TIP: For optimal results, the float needle seat in the carburetor should also be cleaned. To do this, gently insert a cotton swab into the float needle hole and rotate it back and forth with gentle pressure. Make sure no residue remains. Brake cleaner works well for cleaning the entire carburetor.
