What is an AGM battery?

An AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery is based on the technology of an absorbent glass fiber mat. The absorbent glass fiber mat has the main advantage that there is no more liquid in the battery.

What is the difference between AGM batteries and gel batteries?

Unlike gel batteries, AGM batteries contain acid as electrolyte which is bonded in a micro glass fleece (lead fleece batteries). Often AGM batteries are mistakenly offered as GEL batteries. The IONI AGM battery is also sealed and virtually maintenance free. The biggest advantage of the AGM battery over the gel variant is the noticeably higher starting power and cold stability. However, a complete deep discharge should also be avoided here (as with a gel battery).

Increased starting power and low self-discharge

The abbreviation AGM stands for "absorbent glass mat", which translates to absorbent glass mat (glass fiber fleece). In this lead-fleece technology, a glass fiber fleece is saturated with sulfuric acid. Unlike conventional acid batteries, there is no longer any liquid in the battery that could leak in the event of an accident, for example. This new type of construction has many advantages. Due to a quite low internal resistance of the AGM batteries, the self-discharge is pleasingly low. The batteries thus retain sufficient capacity for the next starting process, even during longer standstills.

Absolutely maintenance-free, sealed and ready for installation

Thanks to the latest AGM technology (glass-fleece technology), IONI batteries are absolutely maintenance-free and offer the highest quality level in the small amp class. Through constantly optimized processes in the production, the IONI batteries are saturated and impregnated several times (AGM, lead fleece), unlike other manufacturers, whereby they have and hold far more energy than is specified. One notices the difference usually already with the weight of the IONI battery.

Longer service life

Especially scooters and motorcycles, which are not moved over the cold season, are ideal for the use of AGM batteries. An AGM battery is less sensitive to a deep discharge. At cold temperatures, it provides a good capacity, which is not necessarily the case with normal lead-acid batteries. Due to these properties, AGM batteries also have a longer life. The AGM technology of the IONI battery achieves up to three times the cycle life of a conventional battery.

AGM batteries have a small internal resistance compared to other starter batteries. Thus, the self-discharge is also much lower. Even when the motorcycle or scooter is stationary for a long time, the vehicle can still be started
